A suspect, one Wasiu Alowonle, thursday jumped to his death at the premises of the Ogba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, where he was brought for the continuation of his trial.

Alowonle was said to have been arraigned before the court by the police for theft.

When his case was adjourned, he was taken to the Kirikiri Minimum Security Prison in Lagos, pending his next court appearance before Magistrate O.I Raji.

But when he was brought by the prison officials to the Ogba Magistrate’s Court 20 to face trial for his charges thursday, he jumped through the open window of the three-storey building.

It was gathered that upon jumping, his body smashed the window as he crashed to the ground and died on the spot before help could arrive.

The court prosecutor was said to have contacted the Isokoko Police Division on the death in the premises and they took the corpse away for investigation.

When contacted, the Lagos State police spokesman, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, adding that the police were investigating the incident.

Oti said the corpse of the suspect was deposited in the morgue for autopsy before deciding on what to do with the body.
