Rotary DG Visits Rotary Club of Lagos Island

The District Governor of Rotary District 9110, Rtn. Dr. Wale Ogunbadejo, has visited the Rotary Club of Lagos Island as part of measures to laud the efforts of the club in supporting the community and promoting societal good.

Speaking recently during the visit, Ogunbadejo, commended the sterling virtues of the President of the club and its members for its drive at repositioning the fortunes of the district 9110, especially through empowerment initiatives, Rotary polio eradication exercises and other activities.

He stated that at RCLI, they are committed to making a positive difference in the community by achieving goals related to the Rotary’s three strategic priorities which he said are; to support and strengthen the club, focus and increase humanitarian services and projects, and enhance rotary public image and awareness.

Ogunbadedjo explained that in the area of memberships development they have retained 84 members and added 61 new members in the Rotary year as at November 1 which brought the total to 145 (male 92, and female 53) with eight honorary members increasing the number to 153.

“The emphasis is to bring new members from diverse classification and different nationalities. For this, our motto is 3B- Bolder, Bigger and Better,” he noted.

The Rotary DG further stated that in line with efforts at promoting of the foundation, they plan to contribute at least $10,000 towards the growth of the foundation yearly, adding that 34 members pledged towards the project, and 29 have paid.

He added: “The most prestigious project of the club is the project Ishk with global grants of $182,500. The project is aimed at free distribution of artificial limbs in our community, which is a joint with the Rotary Club of Singapore and Tolaram foundation in which 1,700 artificial limbs will be provided for free. The project will be formally launched on December 3, when the Rotarian team from Singapore will arrive.

“In project Abhiyan Ile-Iwe in which we have adopted two schools Teslim Elias and Union Baptist at Adeniji Adele Road, we have pledged to model the schools in the next five years. The project report is under preparation for district support and global grant.

“In a joint partnership with Geeta Ashram, we have executed our first eye project in Kano wherein 436 cataract operations were done free of cost from September 25 to 26. Rtn. Anil Gopwani, Chairman Service Projects and Rtn. Manu Bhai Lalwani, Coordinator Vision 2020 was in Kano during the camp.

“RCLI has planned six blood donation camps during year 2017-18 with corporate organisation. First camp was with Airtel on July, 28, while the second the camp was held on September 29 with Chellaram Plc. The third camp was on December 7 with kewalram foundation. In 2018, we will have camp with Tolaram foundation, Parco group and with IHS.
