The Kaduna State Government has assured that it will address security challenges facing communities in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Communities in the area had been under siege by kidnappers and armed bandits who abducts and kill the villagers almost on a daily basis.

The state government on Monday met with representatives of various communities in the area to find a solution to the problem.

About six villages in the area were said to have been sacked by kidnappers and armed bandits.
Many of the villagers were reported to have abandoned their homes as people were being killed or abducted at home or on their farms, almost on a daily basis.

The meeting between government and representatives of the communities came just as the kidnappers were reported to have invaded communities in Kajuru local government area, where three members of the family of a retired civil servant and the village head were abducted in their homes.

Dio Maisamari, a retired federal civil servant in Mararaban Kajuru said armed gunmen invaded his home around 1a.m. last Wednesday and abducted his wife, mother in-law, nephew and his friend’s son.

He said his mother in-law was later release by the bandits as they (the kidnappers) said she was too old and may cause problems for them.
Also last Thursday, the village head of the area was reportedly abducted when gun men stormed his resident at about 2a.m.

All the victims were still in captivity at the time of this report.
Monday’s meeting between senior government officials of the Kaduna State Government, led by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal and representatives of the Chikun communities which held at the Hassan Katsina House discussed how the security challenges could be tackled.

A statement issued after the meeting by Samuel Aruwan, spokesman to Governor Nasir El-Rufai said government was working with relevant security agencies to overcome the security challenges being faced by the communities.

The government solicited for the cooperation of communities in the affected areas to tackle the problem.

The statement which condemned the attacks on the communities, commiserated with families of those who lost their loved ones and property

The meeting was attended by all heads of security agencies in the state.

The statement also said the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) was directed to take inventory of the destructions and provide relief materials to the affected communities.

“We commiserate with citizens that lost their loved ones and also those who lost property in all these barbaric and inhuman attacks. By the special grace of God, we will overcome this evil” the statement said.
