Two Robbers Shot Dead Over Attack on Dangote Cement

Luck has run out on two members of an armed robbery gang that attacked Dangote Cement factory, Ibeshe, in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun state as they were shot dead during an encounter with the police weekend.

It was gathered that the gang, numbering about seven, upon invasion, while armed with dangerous weapons moved straight to the material section of the company in a bid to cart away some armoured cables.

A team of the armed policemen posted on duty at the company, it was learnt, were alerted by the company security men until they swiftly moved to the scene. And upon sighting the policemen, it was said the hoodlums opened fire which lasted for about 45 minutes in a bid to beat retreat.

But at the end of the ensuing encounter, it was confirmed one of the robbers was shot dead while another one was arrested with serious gunshot wounds but died on the way to the hospital. Other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.

ASP Abimbola Opeyemi, Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and disclosed that a locally made single barrel gun, 14 expended cartridges, a dagger and a house-breaking implement were recovered from the gang.

He, however, said the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ahmed iliyasu had commended the gallantry displayed by the policemen and he appealed to members of the public, especially operators of hospitals to always report anybody found with gunshot wounds to the police.

Besides, he said the CP has assured residents of the state of adequate security before, during and after the forthcoming yuletide season.
