Abby Adesanya: I Enjoy Dressing People

Abby Adesanya is a Lagos-based socialite and the Creative Director of Abby.Adesanya. She set up her fashion line when she decided to follow a nudging she always had since she was a little girl, growing up in the eclectic Surulere neighborhood. In this chat with Tosin Clegg, Abby talks about starting out, building her brand and lots more

Tell us about your clothing line and what inspires your design?

I enjoy dressing people up and making them feel good. When people come into my workshop and I put together an ensemble for them and they are delighted, adding that little bit more in the way of appearance to their personalities makes them really happy!

Who are your mentors and role models, and what sets you apart from other designers?

For inspiration I look to top Nigerian and continental brands that are clearing the road for my generation of entrepreneurs. Deola Sagoe, April by Kunbi with unique pieces showcasing the wealth of the African culture and glorifying the body of the African woman, among other designers inspire my creations.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, Abby.Adesanya aims to have dominated the Nigerian space with affordable and commercial Ready to wear pieces, carving a handsome portion of the fashion industry’s market share to us. After which, we would take on the world.
