The timber section of the old Panteka Market in Kaduna was Friday morning gutted by fire.
Hundreds of shops were reduced to ashes in the fire incident that was said to have occurred at about 2:00 am. Goods estimated at millions of naira were said to have been lost in the incident.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but some of the traders believed that it might have been caused by electrical fault.
Traders who were affected by the incident said they they could not salvage anything from their shops.
The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Emergence Management Agency (SEMA), Ezekiel Baba Karik, said in an interview that the timber section of the market was completely burnt.
