A special session of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum held in Lagos has commended governors and lawmakers from the regions on the stand on the need to restructure Nigeria.

The well-attended meeting which had Chief Ayo Adebanjo leading the South-west delegation, Prof Joe Irukwu as the head of South-east, Chief Albert Horsfall as the head of the South-south and Dr. Bala Takaya leading the Middle Belt, eulogised the political office holders from the region for collectively agreeing on the need to restructure Nigeria.

In a press release signed on behalf of the forum by the Afenifere National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, the leaders noted: “We commend the southern governors for their recent meeting in Lagos where they took a common stand on the need to return Nigeria to a federal entity.

“We salute Southern Senators’ Forum for their successful retreat in Calabar where they rose with a call on the president to summon a meeting of the National Assembly leadership, governors and state assemblies leadership to commence the implementation of the 2014 National Conference reports. It is commendable that the senators rose across party lines to take a position for the rescue of Nigeria at this sinking point,” Odumakin noted.

The forum there called on all patriots across Nigeria to support the patriotic stance of the governors and the senators to put Nigeria back on track through the enthronement of genuine federalism.

Other leaders at the meeting included Gen Ike Nwachukwu (rtd), Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Senator Jona Jang, Mr Donald Duke(represented), Prof Banji Akintoye, Prof George Obiozor, Mr. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN), Dr Akin Onigbinde(SAN), Senator Femi Okurounmu, Chief Guy Ikoku, Mr Labaran Maku, Chief Supo Shonibare, Mr Isuwa Dogo, Col Tony Nyiam and Mr Fafa Dan-Princewill.
