Abaribe’s Kindness Gone Awry

Political Notes

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe from Abia State is no doubt a good man. And this kindness, he recently extended to an irreverent brother of his, Nnamdi Kanu, the controversial leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), when he stood as surety for him the day he was granted bail after almost two years in detention.

However, after flouting practically all the conditions of his bail, including inciting his people against the government, a move that precipitated why IPOB was designated as a terrorist group, Kanu has since disappeared and Abaribe has become a regular face in court following his failed bid to produce Kanu as demanded by the court.

That may not be a worthy lesson for the senator, whose kind gesture might have gone awry from all indications. It is certain Abaribe may not take kindly to how things are turning out, however, the lesson here is not just for him, but everyone who is inclined to standing in for people they feel are deserving of their kindness. There is a great take-home lesson here for all.
