500 Youth Participating in a Basketball Clinic in Minna

Not less than 500 youths from the 25 local government areas of Niger State are participating in a one-week basketball clinic which kicked off in Minna on Tuesday.

The clinic, the 9th in the series is being sponsored by a United States-based sport organisation, Time Out 4Africa Sports and Education Foundation and has participants from five to 18 years in attendance.

Also, not less than 20 instructors from parts of the country are lecturing the kids at the clinic.
The sponsor of the clinic, Mr. Jonathan Kolo, said the major focus of the programme is “to catch them young” and impact in them techniques of the game.

“The essence of what we are doing is to help promote and develop the game of basketball in the state. We want to catch them young and this is part of our contribution to enhance the development of the game in the state and the country,” he noted.

Kolo added that over 100 balls, 1,000 t-shirts, 300 school bags, 500 books, and other educational items are to be distributed to the participants at the end of the clinic.

He challenged youths in the state to take participation in sporting activities serious, stressing that “it will not only make you responsible and disciplined person but will be an avenue for employment”.

Kolo said an education aspect had been introduced with the establishment of the junior science club for science technology, engineering, and mathematics for the girl-child commencing from Mawo schools.
The clinic will come to an end on Sunday.
