Regina Pacis School Wins AUST Innovation/Technology Competition

Regina Pacis School, Abuja ‎has won the technology and innovation competition organised by the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja.

The competition organised ‎for 10 selected secondary schools in Abuja, was part of series of activities organised to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the university.

The criteria for choosing the best project include originality of the project, potential to solve human problems, integration of various scientific principles in the project, innovativeness, precision/seamless operation and conduct of presenters of the project.

The school came first with 92.75 per cent as a result of the magnetic generator it developed. Government Science Technical Collage with 92.50 came second while Government Secondary School, Pyakasa came third with 83.50 points.

One of the students of Regina school that defended the project, Ayambem Margaret said: “I really could never have imagined myself getting this far and winning this competition. It feels nice knowing that people appreciate and recognise our project.

The President of the University, Prof. Kingston Nyamapfene, who was represented by Mr. Morgan Akpan said, “our emphasis is not on money but the greatest reward at this stage of their lives is mentorship and we have a feedback system with which we continue to monitor and follow up on these students so that they don’t drop steam or have any reason ‎to doubt a future in any field of alienate an engineering programme they might want to take up in future.

“Going forward, we will continue to interface with them, involve them and also expand the frontiers to bring other schools on board so that they will stay on the right part that they had already chosen for themselves.”
