Buhari Hails Conduct of Anambra Poll, Congratulates Obiano

President Muhammadu Buhari tuesday hailed the peaceful conduct of November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, promising that his administration will always guarantee free and fair polls irrespective of who wins.

The president also commended the people of Anambra State, governorship candidates, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers, security agencies and other stakeholders for their peaceful conduct during the poll but tasked lNEC to improve on the supply of logistics.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari further said the conduct of the polls was encouraging, describing it as an evidence of fruitful electoral reform.

“The processes leading to the election and its peaceful conduct and outcome, have shown that our electoral reform is bearing positive fruits. This is very encouraging and I am determined to give Nigeria free and fair elections, no matter which way the results swing,” he was quoted as saying.

According to the statement, the president said he was happy over the conduct of candidates on post-election results, saying it was “heart-warming and a renewal of confidence in the sanctity of the ballot which deepens our nation’s democracy.”

It also said the president tasked INEC to improve on its operations in the area of logistics’ supply as the country inches closer to the conduct of more governorship elections as well as the forthcoming 2019 general election.
The president also congratulated the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, on his re-election and challenged him to build on his achievements which he said endeared him to the electorate and consequently swayed overwhelming majority of votes in his favour.

While wishing Obiano a successful new tenure, the president promised to work with him to promote greater harmony, peace and development of Anambra as well as the entire country.

“President Buhari assured the governor-elect that the federal government is ready to work with him for the greater harmony, peace and development of not only Anambra State but the entire country. He wished the returning governor a successful new term in office,” the statement added.
