The long delay in the announcement of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State is now a source of worry to the people.
Journalists, observers and party agents kept awake all night in the hope that the results would be announced early Sunday morning were disappointed as no results where announced as at 8:40am on Sunday.
The election was largely peaceful and transparent despite allegations of vote buying, and had ended as early as 4pm on Saturday, but no results were turned in to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters all through the night.
Feelers from the field had indicated that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Chief Willie Obiano, was in the lead, but the party through the special adviser to the governor on social media raised the alarm that the results were being manipulated in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Some Anambra indigenes, who spoke at INEC headquarters, expressed fear over the delay, insisting that the result must be a reflection of What transpired in the field for it to be acceptable.
Mr Okwudili Udochukwu, an independent observer, said there was need to explain the long delay in announcing the results despite the early closure of voting in polling units across the state.
As at the time of filing this story, not one local government result of the 21 in the state had been announced.
