Anambra Poll: Police Restrict Movements in Asaba

By Omon-Julius Onabu in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command will enforce a measure of restriction on human and vehicular traffic especially in parts of Asaba, the state capital, during the governorship election in Anambra State on Saturday.

The command’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Zana Ibrahim, stated this in a directive issued Wednesday in Asaba.

Ibrahim directed the restriction of vehicular movements particularly through the Niger Bridge with effect from 12 midnight on Friday, November 17, 2017 till after the election holding on Saturday, saying the measure was to forestall any breach of security in the contiguous cities.

Asaba and Onitsha are border towns of the two states separated by River Niger and the Niger Bridge as the main connecting route between them and practically all South-eastern states of Nigeria.

However, Ibrahim said that in view of “the gubernatorial election in Anambra State slated for Saturday, November 18, 2017 and the need to prevent any security breach around the Niger Bridge linking Asaba, Delta State to Onitsha, Anambra State”, there shall be “restriction of vehicular movements through the Niger bridge with effect from 12 midnight, Friday, 17 November, 2017 till after the elections”.
