We’re Not Plotting to Launch Reprisal in Taraba, Says Miyetti Allah

The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Sahabi Mahmud Tukur, has decried that the rumour that the Fulani herdsmen are plotting to lunch reprisal on Mambilla in Taraba State, saying they are false, malicious and inciting statements by those in authority.

The chairman disclosed this to journalists yesterday in Yola, Adamawa State, after a crucial meeting with North-east officials and denying the allegation that Fulani were recruiting foreigners to launch an attack over Mambilla killings.

He asserted that the Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku’s claims during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari to seek troops deployment were “entirely false, mischievous and the figment of wild imagination which is aimed at causing restiveness, fear among and intimidation of the peace-loving people of Taraba State.

Tukur was emphatic that “we want to categorically tell the people of Taraba State and all Nigerians that the Fulani have never and will never attack anybody and will seek redress in court of law; even this shall be as a last resort as the Fulani believe in the rule of law and will continue to rely on the law to protect them.”

However, Tukur was reacting to the earlier visit of the state governor on President Buhari at the Presidential Villa to seek military support to implement anti-grazing bill, and to the stop the Fulani herdsmen from going ahead with the alleged plot.

Governor Ishaku had told the president that the activities of the cattle breeders have destroyed farmlands, adding: “As the head of this government, the responsibility lies on me to do all I can to find a lasting solution to this situation that has consumed hundreds of lives, farm produce, cattle and wanton destruction.”
