The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has commissioned the Kogi State Geographic Information Systems (KOGIS) in its bid to ensure a secured land and efficient land management system that can process, analyse, store and retrieve land data electronically to for people of the state.
Commissioning the Geographic Information Systems on Monday, governor Bello said the launch of KOGIS was to move the state away from the inefficient era of analog system of land documentation to a computerised land administration system which would increase the channels of service delivery to the public through modern ICTs tools.
He lamented that the state had over the years loss significant revenues due to the inefficient manual processes, inadequate infrastructural framework and analog system of land documentation and record keeping.
He also said that with the launch of KOGIS, all property owners were expected to recertify their Certificates of Occupancies where they exist while holders of Right of Occupancies (R of Os) are to obtain the secured C of O.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulmumuni Sadiq pointed out that the new system would put an end to menace of land racketeering, double allocation, missing of land files, halphazard land allocations, document mutilation, outright fraud and land encroachments, amongst others.
He said they have ensured that land administration in the State is automated in line with global best practice.
“On assumption of office, I charge them that we cannot continue to do the same thing the same way and expect a different result.
“Furthermore I put on the table the new direction policy of this administration and together, we resolve to deliver on a seamless Land Administration in the State”, he said.
He said the consultants; the SMBI professional services Limited has displayed exceptional professional competence in the handling of the project.
