Kaduna Electric Donates Power Transformer to Danfodiyo Varsity

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Plc has donated  a 7.5 MVA power transformer worth about N100 million  to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

Speaking during the inauguration  of the power transformer at the main campus of the university in Sokoto at the weekend, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Garba Haruna, said the donation was made to adress the challenge of power blackout being faced by the university, following the damage of its transformer few months ago.

According to him, the company decided to intervene quickly and address the problem so as to ensure a conducive atmosphere for learning in the university.

 

He said the move was part of the company’s efforts to enhance qualitative service delivery to its priority customers.

“UDUS is our priority customer and we believed that supplying a 24 hours electricity is of great priority to us. This is a power transformer and It cost a lot of money. It is part of our investment to ensure we deliver power to our priority customers.

“The university is doing well in paying its bills promptly and we felt the need to quickly intervene to ensure a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning in the institution,” he said.

 

He said it was in view of the quest to deliver quality service to its customers, that the company recently signed an agreement to buy 200,000 metres which would be delivered to customers  in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna in three months.

“This to ensure that energy delivered to our customers are properly measured and also to make be confident of  paying what they consumed,” he stated.

He expressed the readiness of the company to partner with the university in the area of renewable energy, especially through solar and wind to deliver energy that is cost effective to some communities in the state.

The managing director to this end, advised the management of the university to do proper energy utilisation in order to reduce waste.

In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, commended the company  for the prompt intervention, as the transformer in use then was completely damaged and went up in flames.

He stated that the university was in total darkness as a result of the damage of the transformer which made life difficult for students and staff of the institution.

 

He thanked the company for the gesture and promised prompt payment of electricity bills.

“I am happy that the transformer was brought to us within a short time which is a big relief to us.  The university has expertise in renewable energy and we are ready to partner with this company to help diversify its area of coverage,” Zuru added.
