Governors Darius Ishaku and Ibrahim Dankwambo of Taraba and Gombe States have rallied support for a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairmanship aspirant, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, saying with his track record, he was the most suitable for the job.

Welcoming Adeniran’s campaign team to the Government House in Jalingo, Ishaku extolled the aspirant’s virtues, calling him a man of high integrity, with huge track record of loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the party.

According to a statement the Director of Media and Publicity of the Tunde Adeniran Campaign Organisation, Mr. Taiwo Akeju, on Friday, the governor said: “We must avoid giving this very important opportunity to anyone but to somebody like Professor Adeniran. I know the pains of been a leader, and that is why we must push for the best candidate, somebody that will bring the desired hope for Nigerians,” he said

Saying he was optimistic about the PDP returning to power in 2019 given the right leadership, the governor stated: “What PDP needs now is a man with character, a man of courage, a man with the capacity to galvanize all and sundry.”

Darius said the only party that was well developed in Nigeria was the PDP as it brought everyone together, adding: “That is what Nigerians are itching for today because you can’t sweep away everything you used your hand and time to create. Therefore, the broom is never an option.”

Earlier in Gombe, the team was received at the Government House by Dankwambo who said the PDP was lucky to have the array of candidates coming out to contest for its national chairmanship, but he was quick to add that the leadership of the party must ensure the emergence of a credible and loyal person as the next chairman of the party.

Dankwambo, who is one of the two PDP governors in the North, said: “I am proud of this team. It is a team of men of timber and calibre; a team that parades our fathers and mothers in politics. I have no doubt in my mind that the aspirant you are rooting for is a man of high integrity and absolute loyalty to our great party, the PDP. I know Prof. Adeniran very well, so am comfortable with people like him.”

Responding on behalf of the delegation, former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, thanked the governors for according the team warm receptions in their states.

In the team were former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu; the campaign’s Director-General,  Alhaji Shehu Gabam; Ambassador Yemi Farounbi; former Foreign Minister, Ambassador  Aminu Wali; and former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri; among others.

“For democracy to earn the respect of any leadership, we need a man of courage, integrity and capacity, and all this is found in Adeniran,” Gana said of Adeniran, adding: “We are entering the phase where ideas will rule all we do. That is why some of us who are privileged to be part of this generation want a leader who has ideologies in politics.”

The former minister of information explained that it was impossible to win an election without a sound strategy, saying that was why the party must be positioned in such a way that winning the 2019 elections would become clear.

Gana said that the battle ground in 2019 would be the South-west, stating that it was the reason the chairmanship of the PDP should go to the geopolitical zone.

“The generals in the field of battle and people with ideas are not zeroing on anybody, but by what he has to offer, we are going with Tunde Adeniran,” he told the governors during the team’s visits to them in Jalingo and Gombe.
