A Memorable Class Reunion

The Old Girls Queens College, Yaba, Lagos Class of ’77 certainly pulled out all the stops to celebrate their 40th year anniversary since leaving the school. Bayo Adeoye reports There are two things nobody can take away from you. Your education and your memories. OGQC Class of ’77 celebrated both in style while creating new memories during two days of fanfare, which were full of unforgettably heartwarming and emotional moments.

It all started off at the Class President’s residence on Friday, 13th October, 2017. The Class President, Mrs. Mosunmola Olulade hosted her former classmates to an evening of fun and laughter. Before a sumptuous dinner, cries of excitement rose to a crescendo as the ladies took lessons in the current and trendy dance steps. This was followed by presentations made by experts to address available business opportunities.

The following day, Saturday, 14th, October, 2017 started with a visit to their old school. It was a time for reminiscing, while the current state of the school was assessed. However, the truly emotional high point was the visit to their 93 year old former Principal, Mrs. Efunjoke Coker. All the ladies had the treasured opportunity to warmly hug her after a brief conversation. Group photographs were taken amidst tears and laughter.

It was only a Grand reunion dinner at the Oriental Hotel that could have concluded these memorable moments. It was an atmosphere of great sisterly warmth, camaraderie, and conviviality. It was obvious that the members of the Planning Committee comprising The President – Mrs. Mosunmola Olulade, The VP – Mrs. Alero Barlow, Arc Fifi Ejindu, Dr. Peju Adenusi, Mrs Remi Odunlami and Mrs. Fatima Hassan Betara had paid great attention to detail. The Special Guest Speaker was Mrs Miriam Uwais, Senior Special Adviser to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for Social Protection, who is also an Old Girl of Queen’s College. The second Speaker was Ms. Michale Matthew. It was extremely touching to see the ladies present awards to some of their former teachers.  Such as Mrs. Dorcas Olapegba, Mrs. Obajimi, Mrs. Oguntimehin, Mrs. Adunbiifa among others, what a great  expression of gratitude!

The surprise was an Efik dance troupe that awed the guests  with their scintillating dance steps. However, the icing on the cake was when the ladies got down on the dance floor. It was difficult to believe that they left Secondary School forty years ago.

It was, without a doubt, a memorable and grand reunion. The counting continues till the Golden
