FICAN, BudgIT Hold Forum on Effective Budget Reporting

The Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) and BudgiT, a civic-tech organisation will be holding a forum on effective budget reporting, monitoring and implementation.

The maiden ‘Meet-the-Executive,’ holds in Lagos on November 7, 2017, with the theme: “Budget Analysis, Monitoring and Implementation: The Role of Financial Journalists.”

The event will help participants gain more knowledge needed in reporting and monitoring the implementation of the 2018 budget, which draft has been approved by the Federal Executive Council.

The Chief Executive Officer of BudgIT, Mr. Seun Onigbinde, will be the guest speaker at the event.

FICAN is the umbrella body of journalists and business editors reporting the finance sector of the economy. The Association has membership working in print, electronic and online media.

The ‘Meet-the-Executive’ forum is a capacity building and agenda-setting programme designed to deepen the understanding of financial journalists on developments in the economy and enhance quality of reporting in the industry.

Founded in 2011, BudgIT is a civic organization, applies technology to citizen engagement to bring about societal change. A pioneer in the field of social advocacy melded with technology, BudgIT uses an array of tech tools to simplify the budget and matters of public spending for citizens, with the primary aim of raising standard of transparency and accountability in government.

The role of financial journalists in tracking, monitoring and reporting the budgets of federal, states and local governments remains paramount to ensure transparency, drastically reduce corruption and ensure equitable distribution of resources in the economy.
