The Chairman of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Hon. Muhammed Yusuf, has disclosed that following the hit on Boko Haram terrorists in Borno and Yobe States, the insurgents are fleeing to the state to hide.
Yusuf made the disclosure in a telephone chat with THISDAY yesterday, noting that he got information from a source that the terrorists were fleeing into Madagali which is a border town to Gwoza in Borno State, the stronghold of the insurgents.
He said he was using the opportunity to call on the security apparatus to tighten security in Madagali in order to prevent the insurgents from entering the town and the state.
Yusuf further explained that they already have insurgents terrorising and molesting their people for five years now, adding that allowing more to flee into Madagali would worsen their activities in the area.
“We already have some insurgents in Sambisa forest few metres to Madagali that we are managing and trying to wipe-out and to allow more to join the ones we have will worsen the situation,†he said.
He urged the security operatives manning the areas to do a thorough check on motorists and passengers coming out of Borno and Yobe States into other states.
Yusuf also commended the military for launching fierce attacks on the insurgents, saying if the military continues in such manner the fight against the insurgency would be a thing of the past.
However, he said the security situation in Madagali was a bit calm for two to three days now but a proactive measure should be taken to stop the insurgents from worsening the security situation in the area.
Member representing Madagali/Michika Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Adamu Kamale, also commenting on the issue, said he was not just only concerned about the fleeing Boko Haram insurgents but the series of attacks on Madagali on a daily and weekly basis.
He lamented that more than 100 women kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgents in recent times are still under their custody in Sambisa forest and that they had reported the matter to the authorities countless times but nothing has been done.
Kamale further explained that it has not been well with Madagali for some years now, adding the area usually experiences series of attacks on a daily basis.
He said whether the insurgents were fleeing into the area or not, it has not known peace and the people have been languishing in pains because of the insurgents’ incessant killings and abduction of young women in the area.
Kamale said recently three young women were kidnapped and nothing has been done to rescue them, adding that the Sambisa is still a stronghold of the insurgency.
However, every effort to get the military authorities to respond on the issue proved abortive.
