Maina Remains on Our Wanted List, EFCC Insists

By Paul Obi in Abuja

As controversy continues to trail the recall of the former boss of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrashed Maina, into the Federal Civil Service, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday insisted that Maina remain under the commission’s wanted list.

Maina was indicted by the Senate in 2013, where he was booted out of the civil service for alleged looting of billions of pension funds.

He was later placed on Interpol watch list by the EFCC after his escape from the country.

Surprisingly, Maina has been recalled and appointed as Director of Human Resources in the Federal Ministry of Interior, Abuja.

In defence of Maina, the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdularahman Dambazau (rtd) through his Press Secretary, Ehisienmen Osaigbovo, denied any wrong in the recall of Maina to the civil service.

Speaking with THISDAY, EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwugiaren, maintained that Maina “is still on the commission’s wanted list.”

Though Uwugiaren would not provide more details on plans to arrest Maina, THISDAY learnt plans are already underway to apprehend Maina this week.

There might also be conflict of interest as it has been reported that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), recommended the recall of Maina to the federal civil service.
