Rivers Angels Are Champions of 2017 Aiteo Cup

Rivers Angels defeated Ibom Angels 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out yesterday at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos to emerge champions of the 2017 Aiteo Cup. Scores at Regulation time stood at one all.

Gloria Ogbonna cancelled Cynthia Aku’s strike for Rivers Angels to drag the final into the penalty shoot out.
The Rivers Angels showed their determination to retain the trophy as they were the better team in the spot kicks. Ibom Angels were poor in the shoot out, missing all their first three kicks.

For their efforts, Rivers Angels were presented with the sponsors star prize of N10million from Aiteo Group. Ibom Angels got the consolatory N5million as runners up.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has congratulated Rivers Angels Sports Club for emerging champions of the 2017 Aiteo Cup.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike expressed happiness that Rivers Angels have continued to be worthy ambassadors of the state with their superlative displays on the field of play.

He said his administration will continue to support the ladies in their quest to win laurels for the good people of Rivers State.

Wike reiterated the commitment of his administration to the promotion of sport as a tool of empowerment.
Also speaking on the club’s victory, Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Boma Iyaye expressed happiness at the feat of the team.

Hon Iyaye also lauded the players and their handlers for justifying the confidence reposed on them by the Rivers State Government.
He also noted that the government will continue to support and invest in the team.
“I want to commend Rivers Angels FC for this laudable feat.

” They have done well for themselves and also made Rivers State proud.
“This victory is a clear testament of the tenacity, doggedness and display of the traditional Rivers spirit of excellence.
“They have reposed the confidence reposed in them by the Rivers State Government and we are proud of them,” Hon Iyaye concluded.
