The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yon Tuesday disclosed that it had over two billion litres of petrol in stock to ensure a hitch-free end-of-year movement of motorists.

It said the period which coincides with the Christian Christmas celebration is sometimes characterised by supply and demand disequilibrium, hence, its decision to keep a robust product stock.

According to a statement from the Group General Manager, Public Affairs of NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughammadu, in Abuja, NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, disclosed this after his recent investiture as a honorary special marshal by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Baru, the statement noted, assured that adequate measures were in place to ensure that motorists have unimpeded access to fuel ahead of the forthcoming end-of-year festivities.
He said provision of adequate petroleum products would not only ease transportation but would also make Nigerian roads safer for motorists, and that consumers would have no need to hoard petrol in jerry cans.

“As we speak, NNPC has over two billion litres of petrol and we want to sustain this level from now on till the end of the year and beyond. This volume would give the country product sufficiency of about 60 days, well above the standard 30 days sufficiency threshold,” Baru said in the statement.

He also described his investiture as a testament of NNPC’s long standing commitment to road safety and support for the FRSC, adding that it would remain committed to the FRSC.
The statement also quoted the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Operations at the FRSC, Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor, who presided over the ceremony, to have stated that road safety was the responsibility of everyone from motorists to regular road safety officers including special marshals.
