Ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umah, has threatened to deal with politicians from the state who heat up the polity with hate campaigns.

He said the warning had become necessary following rumour peddling and hate speeches trailing the gubernatorial poll.

In a statement made available to THISDAY on Sunday in Awka, Anambra State by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nkeiruka Nwode, the commissioner warned against rumour peddling in the state especially as the state prepares for the election in November.

The statement said political parties in the state had been warned to play by the rules of the game and avoid acts likely to cause breach of the peace or intended to heat up the political atmosphere in the state.

It said political parties were advised to caution their political appointees against “careless statements likely to cause breach of peace or heat up the polity”.
