Police Declare Eight Wanted over Port Harcourt Killings

The police in Rivers State have declared eight persons wanted over the killing of about 15 persons in the state last Monday.

Yet-to-be-identified gunmen believed to be members of a cult group, had invaded Mgbuoshimini Community In Rumueme, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours on Monday and killed about 15 persons, although the police confirmed only 10 persons dead.

Indeed reports said some bodies were recovered from the river yesterday, raising the death toll.
Addressing journalists yesterday at the state Police Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni (DSP), noted that preliminary investigation by the police has shown that the act was carried out by a 10-man gang.

Omoni stated that the Icelanders cult group was responsible for the killings, adding that 10 members of the cult in the area have been fingered in all the killings recorded in Mgbuoshimini.

Omoni averred that identity of the two of the suspects have not been fully obtained, adding that the eight persons already declared wanted by the police were the prime suspects.

He gave the names of the eight persons as: Daddy Chukwu, 27; Mike Okocha, 25; Alhaji Otums Monday, 23; Nyesom Nwodinka, 19; Orji Amadi, 25; Veejee Orji, 19; David Chibula Orji, 22, and Junior Amadi, 19.
The PPRO said the gang was also responsible for the killing of one Late Chief Minikwu Chukwu and Cletus Barigbinee and other killings in the area.

Governor Nyesom Wike had in the wake of the incident given the police the marching orders to fish out the culprits and bring them to justice, just as he condemned the politisation of security challenges in the state by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
