FCBESCOLA Shifts Focus on  Talent Development

Barely one year after, the FCBESCOLA, Lagos, which is pride to be the first in sub-Saharan Africa began, the academy reputed for teaching endurable leadership values has made tremendous impact and success.

Recently in Lagos, during the Parents Forum, third in the series, the management of the academy declared the 2017 – 2018 season opened with the primary objective of developing the rich talents that is abound in the country, without compromising the essence of imbibing the FC Barcelona globally acceptable values of teamwork, honesty, ambition, good leadership attitude and commitment among others.

Addressing the gathering in his Season Opening Presentation, Bernat Villa, the academy’s Technical Director expressed satisfaction in the progress made in the last one year. In elation, he revealed that the technical team is proud with regards to the success made so far. Particularly, after making two enjoyed and memorable trips to take part in two important global tournaments with participation from all the continent which offer the participating students life time exposure, experience and opportunities. Our involvement embolden, inspired and motivated the students who made the trips. This season, the academy plans to up the game in this direction, focusing more on talent discovery and development.

‘From our research and work so far, we have discovered that there are a lot of young talents, with the passion to be the future legends. This season, we will go the extra mile to discover and grow talents and exposed them to more time tested global tournaments that are of immense value to all parties involved. This, we hope to achieve without delegating the teaching of the Barca values to the background,’ he stated.

 For the talents to actualized their dreams in earnest and maximized fully the abundant opportunities available everywhere in the sector.

Benedicta Nwagwu, Talent  Management Team coordinator, explained that aside the student’s individual skill, talents, knowledge and experience of the game, in all, attitude which the academy rate very high is key  and must be principally developed for us to achieve the desired result, living the academy’s visioners’ dreams.

‘Attitude 30 per cent, tactical contents 25 per cent, technical content and application 20 per cent, game system 15 per cent, and transversal contents 10 per cent. In this rating scheme, it is very clear how important attitude is in the talent’s career advancement. We pay premium attention to this area in developing and growing talents. This we cannot exchange for anything else. Thus, attitude as they say is everything,’ she emphasized, enjoining parents and guardians to develop more interest in bringing up their children and wards well.

The licensee of the elite FCBESCOLA Lagos, Mr. Leslie Oghomienor, in his response to some of the parents’ questions and commendations, expressed his sincere gratitude to the parents, the government and people of Lagos State, and the management team for their total commitment, unalloyed support and immense contributions towards the development and growth of the academy during the last season. He called upon the stakeholders not to relent on their effort, and promised to drive the vision with all that is in his being, for seeing the children enjoying themselves while displaying their skills and talents, every time he visits the academy gives him uncommon fulfillment. This according to him informed the academy’s Elite 96 full scholarship project for exceptionally talented children with good attitude.

‘For us to come this far, is because of the passion, commitment and the uncommon support of all the stakeholders, particularly the parents and guardians of our future legends. They made us. In their accomplishment we measure our pride. Thus, in agreement with the school 2017/2018 focus, we will pursue talent discovery and development with all our strength. This passion, informed the Elite 96 Scholarship Project. The only thing you need to qualify for the award which is applicable to both the academy’s students and non-students, is good attitude and exceptional talent,’ Ognomienor said.

Commenting on the achievement of the academy, vice chairman of the school, Kayode Adeleke, who is overwhelmed by the miles covered by the management in such a short span of time, applauded all involved and appealed to them, not to rest on their oars, but should dare to explore more tougher grounds for the advancement of the students and the growth of the academy for their individual betterment, while imploring the 50 successful Elite 96 Scholarship  awardees to be focus and concentrate on their career for their good and that of the Nigerian Nation.

‘Our national development, unity, peace and progress is dependent on how far we can go in putting sustainable structures in  strategic communities, helping in the discovery and development of the talents that are abound and engaged them positively we can be rest assure that a lot of societal vices would fade out, as a nation we are work in progress. So also the academy. I am very convinced that for us all t here better and great days ahead. We should just keep doing the best we can towards nations building. The Elite 96 Scholarship Project is the academy’s own way of contributing…’ he stressed.

Furthermore, according to Oghomienor, trial sessions to select the remaining awardees for the Elite 96 Scholarship Project is ongoing. Interested candidates can register at the FCBESCOLA, Lagos, at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. It is opened to students between the ages of six and 18.
