AKISIEC Boss Laments Low Awareness of LG Polls

The Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Mr Aniedi Ikoiwak, has lamented the low awareness of the forthcoming local government elections in the state by stakeholders.

Accordingly, he has directed the electoral officers in the 31 local government areas of the state to sensitise stakeholders in order to ginger awareness on the council polls.

Ikoiwak, who gave the directive Thursday in Ndon Eyo, Onna Local Government area in continuation of his statewide inspection of facilities at the area offices of AKISIEC ahead of the election, urged the electoral officers to embark on enlightenment campaigns to churches, palace of traditional rulers, officials of the local government areas and other stakeholders.

“You should draw up your programme of enlightenment on the forthcoming local council elections slated for December 2. It is necessary that you maintain contact with the officers in charge of National Orientation Agency (NOA) and security agents in your local government areas,” Ikoiwak advised.

Explaining that the engagement of stakeholders by the electoral officers would ginger the people’s interest in the exercise, the AKISIEC boss advised the electoral officers to compile the names of all applicants for election duties in their local government areas and send to the headquarters for selection.
