Ekiti 2018: APC Chieftain Canvasses Popular Standard-bearer

By Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Olusegun Osinkolu, has appealed to the leadership of the party to listen to the electorate in deciding the choice of candidate for APC to be able to ride to victory in the 2018 governorship election.

Osinkolu said the party might still lose the election even with credible and transparent primary, if the candidate that emerges is only popular within the party but lack mass appeal among the electorate.

The senatorial aspirant, who spoke in Ado Ekiti Monday, said the party must look for a candidate who musters enough popularity within the party and among Ekiti populace to be able to win the election.

He charged the members of the State Working Committee (SWC) to eschew partisan interest and make rapprochement with critical stakeholders, including civil servants, artisans, students, market men and women to be able to know who is more acceptable among the over 30 aspirants vying for the plum seat in APC.

He said it would be counter-productive for the party to underestimate the political capacity of the would-be candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Deputy Governor of the state, Prof Kolapo Olusola.
