Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto
The Sokoto State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Sunday pleaded with the federal government to as a matter of urgency, resolve the impasse with the union so as to save the health sector from imminent collapse.
Speaking with journalists shortly after its executive council meeting in Sokoto, the chairman of the association in the state, Abubakar Shehu, asked the government to intervene by meeting the demands of the union.
According to him, the call became necessary as ordinary citizens are going through serious pains as a result of the industrial action.
He stated that the members of the union were left with no other option than to embark on strike as a result of the failure of the federal government to meet their demands.
Shehu said some of the demands included deduction and non remission of members’ contributory fund, issue of promotion arrears as people were promoted two years ago without government paying their promotion arrears and stagnation, among others.
