As part of efforts to keep Nigerian students across all public and private schools engaged and ensure that they refocus their attention more in the area of sciences, the Laboratory Supplies and Solutions Limited has unveiled the Science Teachers’ Game (STG), a reality show that will connect with students and science teachers.

The competition is also designed to enhance the lifestyles of science teachers and students and reposition them to start earning more money just like other professionals in the banking, telecommunication, oil and gas and other blue chip companies, among others.

Speaking at the media launch in Lagos recently, the promoter of the initiative, Mr. Patrick Ochuba described the concept as new, innovative and interesting, adding that it would be full of fun for teachers and students.

“The Science Teachers’ Game is aimed at discovering, recognising and rewarding excellence in the teaching and study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The science teachers do not need to go elsewhere to play this game, but will just need to remain in their classrooms, engage their students actively in science experiments and showcase their activities on the All School Science Practical and Project Academy Awards portal (Assppaa-ISBORS).”

Ochuba added: “We have got a software and technology-Assppaa-ISBORS that connects with the teachers, captures their classroom activities with their students, measures and quantifies their skills, intelligence and frequency of activities and pay them money per every activities they successfully carry out in the classroom.”

He said the firm plans to expose science teachers to two sources of income- from their employers and from the game. “Science teachers earn more money as they perform more science practical functions with their students. While earning more money, they should create targets for themselves; aim to be the best in their chosen subject areas.”

According to him, the best biology, chemistry and physics teachers, students and school managers at the end of the 2017/18 academic session would be rewarded with three brand new IVM cars, N60 million and all-expense-paid-trip to Dubai.

“The science teachers’ game is open to both public and private secondary schools in Nigeria and registration is free for all science teachers and students.”

Interested schools are expected to log on to www.assppaa.com to start earning more money, as Ochuba noted that his organisation has partnered Fidelity Bank, Konga, Systemtech and Innoson Motors to make it a success.

The host and brand ambassador, Science Teachers Game, Ms. Isabella Akinseye expressed excitement about the competition, saying that it combines her love for education and entertainment.

“Edutainment is the way forward to making learning enjoyable and exciting. Science practical and trips to the laboratory were fun for me. With technology and social media, we can get the science students more involved.”
