Balogun Debunks ‘Injury’ Reports, Says He’s Fit as Fiddle

WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

Super Eagles and Mainz 05 of Germany defence trojan, Leon Aderemi Balogun has dispelled speculations in a section of the sporting press that he is nursing an injury that may stop him from Nigeria’s crucial Russia 2018 qualifying match against Zambia on October 7 in Uyo
Speaking to AOIFootball.com after his German Bundesliga game at the weekend, the former Damstadt FC defender said he was fine and looking forward to his team’s next game.
“I am fine and it’s not true I’m injured. If you followed the game on Saturday, I played all 90 minutes,” he said.
Balogun is expected to be part of the list of players to be invited for the make or mar qualifier against the Chipolopolo of Zambia.
Also declaring himself fit for the clash against the Zambians is Super Eagles and CSKA Moscow striker, Aaron Olanare Samuel,
The striker said from his base in Russia after CSKA Moscow’s last training session ahead of the weekend clash with FK Rostov said: “I’m in good shape and ready to play for Nigeria any time I’m called up.
“I played about 65 minutes for my club in our 2-1 win against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League and I am also looking forward to this weekend’s game against Rostov; hopefully, I can get on the score sheet.”
He also added that playing in the Champions League will help toughen him up for a spot in the Super Eagles’ starting eleven.
The former Guangzhou R&F striker who was invited for the clash against Cameroon as a late replacement for Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi, but did not feature, said he hopes to be called up against Zambia when the list is been announced.
“I am looking forward to another invitation against Zambia come next month and I hope to battle for the starting shirt,” said Samuel.
The 23-year- old was an integral part of the late Stephen Keshi’s team between 2014 and 2015, playing seven games and scoring twice for the Super Eagles against Sudan in Abuja and Congo, in a 2015 Nations Cup qualifier.
