Okon, C’River First Republic Federal Parliamentarian Passes on

An elder statesman and First Republic federal parliamentarian, Chief Bassey Okon, has died in Calabar, Cross River State. He aged 91

Okon represented Calabar Federal Constituency in the then Eastern Region, a constituency that covered the entire present-day Cross River Southern senatorial district. He had a distinguished career as an educationist, technocrat and politician.
He was the first Principal of the mission-owned Duke Town Secondary School, Calabar. He served at other times as the Vice-Principal of Kings’ College, Lagos, and Principal of the Federal Government College, Port-Harcourt.

Information released by the family in Calabar showed that the late statesman would be honoured with a parliamentary valedictory session by the Cross River State House of Assembly on September 29, 2017, while his remains would be interred on September 30 after a commendation service at the Duke Town Secondary School ground in Calabar.
