IPOB: Siege on the Southeast ill-advised, Preposterous, says Anambra AD Guber Candidate

Candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, Chief Nze Valentine Onwuka, has condemned military operation in Abia State describing it as ill-advised and preposterous.

In a statement made available to journalists in Lagos thursday, Onwuka who is the Oyi of Oyi ll, an Ogbunike title made popular by the late Senate President, Chuba Okadigbo, also blamed the South east governors for their leadership failure which gave birth to the struggle for the realisation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to the guber candidate, “If there is a legal instrument ordering the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu or any other individual, the federal government should deploy the police that has the mandate as the institution charged with handling any internal issues to do their job and never the military.

The statement reads in parts:” I believe that this siege on the South East is ill advised and preposterous.

“Ours is a region adjudged the most peaceful in Nigeria, only to be thrown into crisis by error of judgement and decision.

“I would want to state categorically without equivocation that the South East Governors should as a matter of urgency pull together and resist any attempt to create mayhem in the region.

“I am of the opinion that if they, the South East Governors had acted proactively in the wake of this face off with IPOB had galvanised the people through positive education and evident show of genuine concern, we won’t be here today.

“The masses lost hope in their ability to be true representatives of the people, and would rather go for an alternative perceived to be in tune with their needs.

“This is the reason I have always maintained that we must start electing individuals that would represent our core ideologies as a people and align with the positive leanings of the masses.

“We must squeeze out of the money bag politics and politics of aggrandisement if we are to have any meaningful change that can ensure that such carnage as we witness in the south east today, in the name of *Operation Python Dance*

“If there is a legal instrument ordering the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu or any other individual, the federal government should deploy the police that has the mandate as the institution charged with handling any internal issues to do their job and never the military.

“I therefore wish to ask that the military presence in the South East be removed immediately in respect for rule of law and sanctity of life.”.
