The Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff, thursday during the state Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Yenagoa, formally announced that he was stepping aside to have time for his private legal practice.

During the official disengagement of Dokubo-Spiff who is also the paramount traditional ruler of Ada-Ama, Twon-Brass in the Brass Local Government Area of the state, Governor Seriake Dickson explained that the decision to release the SSG was a mutual agreement between the two of them.

Although other members of the cabinet were shocked to hear the news, the governor said it was to enable the lawyer devote time to his legal profession as well as manage the affairs of his native community.
However, Dickson said the former SSG would remain a part of the administration, where he would be assigned some special responsibilities even as he appointed him as the Chairman of the Board of the Bayelsa Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC).

Aside the governor who praised the ex-SSG for his services to the state, the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd) also described him as a warm and humorous person, who would be missed by members of the executive council.
In his response, Dokubo-Spiff, a former acting and substantive Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, thanked the governor for giving him a chance to serve his fatherland.Meanwhile, Bayelsa lawmakers thursday screened and confirmed the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson as a commissioner.

Speaker of the House, Kombowei Benson who led the screening session along with others, including Abraham Ingobere (Brass Constituency 3), Bernard Kenibai (Sagbama Constituency 2), Mietema Ogbodor (Ogbia Constituency 1) and Israel Goli, (Brass Constituency 1) said they were confident the CPS would do well in his new assignment.

Most of the lawmakers who spoke during the plenary, variously described Mr Iworiso-Markson as “competent”, ”capable” and “reliable” and urged him to use his new posting to better the lives of the people Bayelsa before asking him to “take a bow”.
The ex-governor’s spokesman, who answered questions on the effective use of the internet in the dissemination of information as well as how best to handle the rumour mill in the state thanked the lawmakers for finding him worthy.

He added that it was important to use less formal means to reach the hinterland which have no access to the internet, radio or television , noting that holding regular town hall meetings would help in neutralising the rumour mill in the state.
