Sponsor Boosts GOtv Boxing Night with N20m

As part of efforts at ensuring that Nigeria boxing gets to an enviable height, GOtv will be splashing a sum of N20 million towards the organisation of the 12th edition of the GOtv Boxing Night slated for October 1, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Speaking at a press conference to herald the event in Lagos yesterday, General Manager (Marketing), MultiChoice, Mr. Martin Mabutho,  said the company decided to make the event more rewarding for boxers as a way of motivating them to greater achievements.    
Mabutho said boxers will earn a total of N20million in prize monies, while the Mojisola Ogunsanya prize for the best boxer of the event has been expanded to reward two runners-up.
The cash prize for the best boxer has been raised to N2.5m, the first and second runner-up will go home with N1million and N500,000 respectively. 
A total of seven bouts across weight categories have been scheduled. Four of these are international bouts, with the biggest being the African Boxing Union lightweight title defence duel featuring defending champion, Stanley Eribo and Tanzania’s Ramadhani Shauri.
Similarly big is the Commonwealth Africa lightweight title fight between Oto Joseph and Dillon Yule of South Africa.
Another title fight will see Olaide Fijabi, the West African Boxing Union light welterweight champion defend his title against Ghana’s Bilal Ibrahim. The fourth international bout is a featherweight challenge contest between Nigeria’s Waidi Usman and Tanzania’s Juma Fundi.               
 In another light welterweight clash, Baby Face will go up against Christmas Tombraye, Rilwan Oladosu will take on Samuel Opaogun in a lightweight clash, while in the light heavyweight division, Kabiru Towolawi will take on Akeem Adebayo.
