Gunmen Abduct Would-be Couple, Friends

Gunmen yesterday abducted a would-be couple, the best man and their friends at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State on their way to Akure, the Ondo State capital for their engagement ceremony.

THISDAY gathered that the groom, Moses Yakubu, his would-be wife and their three other friends were coming from Okene in Kogi State and heading to Akure for the engagement slated for yesterday (Sunday), when the car in which they were riding was seized at  gunpoint at Akunnu Akoko.

The father of the bride, Mr. Ahmed Yakubu, who confirmed the incident, said the bride and younger sister were later set free by the kidnappers but took away the groom and other friends.

The abductors, it was gathered had were yet to ask for any ransom from the family members as at the time of filling thus report.

Sequel to the incident, the venue of engagement  located on Ogungbolahon Street, off Aule Street, Akure had worn a mournful look as family members were worried about the situation.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph.

Joseph, said policemen are now at and around the scene and  forest around there to rescue d victims

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju,  has met with top officers of the command on the best way to tackle kidnapping especially at  Akoko area which shares boundary with Kogi and Edo states.
