The Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education, FCE, Okene branch has resolved not to interfere with the process of appointing a new provost for the college when the term of the current Provost, Dr. Iyela Ajayi expires in October.

The association at an extraordinary meeting to review the activities in the college in recent weeks, resolved to dissociate itself from the call by the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) on the federal government to discontinue the ongoing process, describing the call as an invitation to the dark days of persistent industrial disputes in the institution.

Sometime ago, COEASU, FCE, Okene had called on the governing council of the college to halt the process, citing irregularities and lack of confidence in the governing council.

However, a statement issued at the end of the extraordinary meeting stated that the decision to make its position clear was as a result of the concern regarding threat to peace being enjoyed in the institution.

It also passed a vote of confidence on the governing council Chairman Sa’a Abubakar and the Dr. Iyela Ajayi led management.

The union said it aligns itself with the ongoing process to appoint a new provost, adding that any attempt to scuttle it will bring back industrial dispute to the college.

“There is no price too much to sustain the cherished peace in the college in the last eight years.”
