Police Kill Suspected Notorious Criminal in Kogi

A suspected notorious criminal known as Luckman popularly called Commander, who allegedly led his gang to Senator Dino Melaye’s house at Ayetoro-Gbede in  assassination attempt in April this year has been killed.

 Luckman was declared wanted by the Kogi State Police Command after some of his members were arrested on the alleged crime.

THISDAY reliably gathered yesterday that the criminal from Obeiba in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of state was killed last Sunday afternoon in a cross fire by the Federal Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) from Abuja in the state.

 According to the sources, heavily armed SARS agents, who stormed the town (Obeiba) at about 3p.m. last Sunday came with three Hilux vans and headed straight to the house of Luckman.

 An eyewitness account disclosed to THISDAY that immediately Luckman saw the SARS,  he and his gang members opened fire but was gunned down on the spot by the security agents while several arrest were made.

 The sources further stated that his lifeless body was taken away by the security men.   It was also gathered that Luckman was involved in several kidnapping, killings and also robbery within and outside Kogi State.  

 Meanwhile, some of his gang members went on rampage the same day, burning down vehicle, police post, and also attacked the residence of the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Deedat Ozigi Salami, and the palace of a traditional ruler, the Obobanyi of Emani Clan, Chief Samuel Onimisi.

 The quick intervention of security men, especially the military and police, restored peace in the community.

 However,  the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Wilson Inalegwu, confirmed to THISDAY that it was true that the notorious criminal was killed while arrest was also made. 

 According to him, the said Luckman and his gang open fire on the SARS agents but was killed in the cross fire while some of his gang members were arrested. More security agents have however been deployed to the town to avoid further crisis.
