Kwara Carries Out 33 VVF Successful Operations

Kwara State Government recently, said it has carried out successful surgical interventions on 33 patients suffering from Vesico vaginal fistula (VVF) at the Sobi Specialist Hospital, Alagbado in Ilorin.

The State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Sulieman Atolagbe, who disclosed this in Ilorin said the successful surgery carried out on the affected patients, would ensure those affected regain their humanhood and dignity among members of the public.

He said, it took the surgeons about seven hours to operate on one of the patients but ended up successful. “I commended the surgeons and the Country Director Fistula Plus, Chief Iyeme Efem and Professor Oladosu Ojemgbede of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan for the programme.”

He called for the establishment of a VVF centre in the state to take care of the North Central zone of the country.
The commissioner also used the occasion to refute the rumour that some people died in a community in the state as a result of a mysterious ailment.

He appealed to members of the public to always verify their information to guide against causing unnecessary panic and anxiety.

Atolagbe said: “on hearing of the rumor, the Head of the Epidemiological Department of Ministry of Health and other personnel were drafted to the town where the rumoured strange disease they claimed happened and they discovered it was untrue
