With the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) hitting the home-stretch, leaders Plateau United and second placed MFM FC maintained status quo in their match day 33 matches.
The Jos team grabbed a 1-1 away draw against Kano Pillars at their Sani Abacha Stadium fortress while the Olukoya boys were also held in a goalless draw with Enyimba at the Agege Stadium.
A win for MFM would have taken the church team to 58 points with just one point off Plateau United. They remain on 56 points, three below Plateau. Enyimba is fourth on 51 points. Pillars is seventh on 48 points.
Plateau however was at the point of widening the gap in the Sunday clash with the Sai Masu Gida. Ibeh Johnson gave United a surprise 1-0 lead when he scored in the 17th minute. Pillars however equalized in the 52nd minute through Hamza Abba Tiya as both teams shared the spoils.
In Ijebu Ode, Akwa United’s title hopes suffered a big set-back as they were beaten 1-0 by Sunshine Stars.
The only goal of the game was scored by Ajibola Otegbeye from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.
Akwa remains third on the league table on 51 points.
El-Kanemi Warriors also suffered a setback in their quest for a continental ticket following their 1-0 away loss to Niger Tornadoes.
Tornadoes’ goal was scored by Bolaji Adeyemo in the 77th minute.
With the defeat, El-Kanemi dropped to sixth with 49 points.
In Ibadan, Shooting Stars gave their fight against relegation a big boost following their 2-1 victory over Gombe United.
Musa Usman gave Gombe the lead on 55 minutes before Seun Akinyemi equalised from the penalty spot on 72 minutes.
And in the 79th minute, Najeem Olukokun scored the winner which took 3SC to 43 points and 14th on the log.
In other match-day 33 fixtures, Remo Stars’ already slim hope of avoiding the drop continued to dwindle as they lost 2-0 away to ABS, Abia Warriors recorded the only away win this weekend as they defeated Lobi Stars 4-2 in Makurdi, while IfeanyiUbah edged visiting Nasarawa United 1-0.
Rivers United and Katsina United clash comes up today at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
