How Fashola Doused Tension with N’Assembly

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, last week, appeared before the House of Representatives Investigative Committee on Breach of Privilege, Violation of Appropriation Act and Incitement of the Nigerian Public, to defend allegation of inciting the public against the lawmakers. But his defence was simple and straight to the point.

One, he didn’t waste time when he declined having anything to do with the slant of the report and naturally, he refused to accept responsibility. The interpretation extended to the story was essentially the choice of the newspapers’ and did not represent his views in anyway, he claimed. However, if the lawmakers found it both disturbing and inciting regardless, he quickly apologised.

But not only did the legislators accept his apology, Chairman of the committee, Aliyu Sani Madaki, also assured Fashola that the working relations between the legislature and him would greatly improve from what it used to be, adding also that the National Assembly would garner resources for his ministry to allow him succeed on his job and provide infrastructure across the country to better the lives of Nigerians.
