In a sting operation carried out by the Seme Special Area Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), it has uncovered a total of 7.5 tons of illicit cannabis sativa depot at Iyana-Ira, Ketu in Lagos State.Â
This was made known in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Principal Staff Officer, Public Affairs of the agency, Mr. Jonah Achema.Â
He said the operation led by the Seme Area Commander in charge of Narcotics, Udotong Noah, led to the arrest of one Ms. Timilehin Vincent Iyama.
According to him, “Timilehin, mother of four from Ifon, Ondo State claimed that her husband, Vincent Iyama, an indigene of Kwale, Delta State brought the cannabis sativa, known in local parlance as ‘wee-wee’ from Ondo State where the illicit drug crop is predominantly cultivated. The drug exhibit was stored in the family’s apartment at No. 40, Kayode Badejo Street, off Chief Tunde Aluko Street, Iyana-Ira, Lagos. A Toyota sienna 2005 model with registration number KTU 737 DZ was also seized from the suspect.”
Achema said the suspect, a JSS3 drop out was known to be dealing in Gaari by neighbours while she also engaged in the clandestine wholesale of cannabis. Â
He revealed that at the time her arrest, the husband was said to have travelled back to Ondo state, being the source of their illicit consignment. Â
The suspect was said to have admitted that she had been in the business with her husband for a couple of years.Â
 Quoting the Area Commander, “the seizure which was based on a tip-off and very intense surveillance, is a major breakthrough for the command. Although the Area command has made a cumulative seizure of about six tons since January, this present seizure is the single largest since the command was established about 21 years ago.”Â
The agency urged the citizens to be vigilant and to come forward with more such hints to help the agency dismantle all the chains of cannabis supply, stressing that given the volume of local production and consumption.
