Agbaso Takes Possession of APGA National Secretariat

Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja

Chief Martin Agbaso thursday took over the headquarters of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at 41, Libreville Street, Wuse 2, Abuja following a validation of an order by the Appeal Court in Enugu on May 22, recognising him as the party’s acting chairman.

Agbaso and some members of members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) gained access to the building that was under lock and key at the time they arrived.

A detachment of anti-riot policemen, numbering about 15, led by Superintendent Hassan Sani, was at the headquarters to effect the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris, on the compliance with the rule of law.

Some APGA chieftains, including the Vice Chairman South-east, Chief Nkolagu Okechukwu; Deputy Chairman, South, Jerry Obasi; National Youth Leader, Chuks Nwoga, and National Publicity Secretary, Nnaena Ukaegbu, were in Agbaso’s company when he stormed the headquarters about5p.m.

After inspecting the office, he expressed sadness at the lack of maintenance of the edifice, saying that a committee will ensure it is properly run as an office.

He also extended the olive branch to the sacked Chairman, Dr. Ike Oye, and other aggrieved parties to come together and forge a common front so that the party can win the governorship election which holds in November in Anambra State.

Agbaso also revealed the plan to meet Governor Willie Obiano in Awka tomorrow on the strategic future of the party.
“It took a bit of time for me to take possession and leadership of our party because of the court processes, but the police has demonstrated its will to comply with the rule of law. I also want to close ranks with Oye because the Anambra State election is very important to us right now. We are putting our best legs in the battle when we conduct our party primaries on August 14. We will embrace internal democracy; make it open and transparent for Anambra people to keep believing in our great party. We will put our great party back to work, restore the confidence Nigerians have in us, give hope to our people and open windows of opportunity for Nigerians,” Agbaso said.

He said the imbroglio would not blur the chances of the party from winning the elections, adding that he has the antecedents to ensure the party triumphs in the Anambra State contest.

The party chairman also promised that the primaries that will hold on August 14 would be open, free and fair and without rancour.
