A Monarch, the Amayanabo of Kalabari, Professor Theophilous Princewill has commended the Daba and Orlando Foundation for rehabilitating one of Nigeria’s oldest colleges, the Kalabari National College (KNC), Buguma, Rivers State.

He made the commendation, recently, at the inauguration of a computer laboratory installed for the college by the foundation.

The Royal father, who was represented by Chief Ibiba Princewill, expressed delight that the computerisation of the college, and restoration of its dilapidated library, will stimulate readership and improve learning by students in the institution.

He called on the students to exploit the computers and restored library for serious studies so as to actualise their life ambition, rather than relapsing to inactivity, delinquency and crime.

The National President of the Buguma Internal Affairs Society (BIAS), Alabo Charles Numbere who has been collaborating with the foundation in its development drive in the area, commended its life enhancement projects in the riverine community, noting that the foundation had few months ago concluded a rural water project for the community while its scholarship for indigent students has been a long-running programme.

The Chairman of the foundation, Mr. Tein George said the aim of the non-profit organisation, is to drive rural development.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Mrs. Doris Tom- George said, “ the endeavours of the foundation cover scholarships, technical and scientific education, empowerment of rural people, rural water and electrification projects as well and culture promotion.

“Daba and Orlando Foundation was founded in 2012, by Tein George, in memory of his late parents, Prof. Orlando and Mrs. Daba George, who had a vision of a thriving society where everyone is able to actualise his/her potential.”

In her welcome address, the Principal of the KNC, Mrs. Sunday Prince Dateme, thanked the foundation for encouraging the school authority in its re-positioning efforts through the donation of the 26-computer laboratory with full infrastructure .
