Love Actually…About Tokunbo Sijuwade’s Frequent Trips to Kaduna

Not a few people have been wondering why bespectacled, boyishly handsome Prince Tokunbo Sijuwade, son of the late Ooni of Ife, has been shuttling between Lagos and Kaduna so much in recent time. The reason is none other than to be close to his wife, the smouldering beauty, Amina Dyeris Sijuwade, who currently serves as the Kaduna State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources.

She was in the Ministry of Justice before a cabinet reshuffle early this year saw her moved to her present ministry. Amina, the daughter of Retired Brig-Gen. Adamu Dyeris, and Tokunbo got married in 1996 in Kaduna with a wedding reception that had the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, as chairman and Highlife legend, Sir. Victor Olaiya, on the bandstand. However, a combination of several factors led to their bitter separation. They were separated for six years. Despite several interventions and pleas for them to reconsider their stances, the Nok princess and then crown prince of Ile Ife were implacable.

It was a bitter period for those who knew the very lovable couple. However, fate lurked in waiting. In 2013, love found them again and they decided to give marriage another shot. They have been inseparable since then. If the couple is not in Kaduna, they are in Lagos or Abuja, barely spending hours away from each other. Last Tuesday, Mrs Sijuwade, a University of Buckingham-trained lawyer, paid a working visit to the Ministry of Environment in Alausa, Ikeja, and the consensus was that she cut a perfect picture of happiness and contentment.
