Shangisha Drama and Osun Perm Sec’s Murder

The suspension, removal and the commencement of prosecution of the Baale of Shangisha in Lagos, Chief Yusuf Ogundare, who faked his own kidnapping for financial gains, was an excellent decision by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, coming at a time the state is faced with serious security challenges. For a community leader to have traveled such an ignoble route, an example must be made of him. If the Baale of Shangisha, who, by virtue of his position in the community, should be the custodian of the values of his people, could descend so low for financial reasons, it speaks to the moral degeneration in the society. This should therefore serve as the basis for an urgent review of the process that puts people like Ogundare in leadership position in communities.

Away from the despicable incident in Shangisha, a sad news came out of Osun. Mrs. Olufunke Oluwakemi Kolawole, the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Bureau of General Services in Osun State, was abducted and killed on her way to Abuja, the federal capital city. Mrs. Kolawole, it was learnt, left Osogbo, the capital of Osun State for Abuja on Thursday July 13, but was reportedly murdered in Okene by her abductors for unknown reasons. In fact, it could have been sheer assassination disguised as kidnapping. But the pictures surrounding her death are not clear yet. While government must begin to ensure the safety of travelers on highways across the country, no effort must be spared to get to the root of Mrs. Kolawole’s gruesome death. Her killers must be brought to justice.
