The wife of Bauchi State governor, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, has said that 6,000 grassroots women across the state are currently undergoing skill training to enable them become self-reliant and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state and the nation at large.

Hajiya Abubakar explained that the training which is coming under the auspices of LINE Oxfam, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), is aimed at promoting agriculture-driven growth and improving the living condition of 10,000 rural farmers in the state, 60 per cent of whom are women.

Speaking at a four-day Gender Equality, Women Empowerment and Protection Workshop Wednesday in Bauchi, Abubakar disclosed that LINE Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 aids and developmental organisation networking to fight policy and injustice around the world.

Represented by the wife of the deputy governor, Fatima Nuhu Gidado, Abubakar explained that LINE Oxfam has put gender equality and women empowerment at the heart of its project and its action shall be guided by Oxfam gender justice principle and framework.
“As we all know poverty wears a woman face and for us to remove this mask, there is need to initiate such a programme periodically to help develop the capacity of women and youths,†she told the workshop participants.
