Residents from areas affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Adamawa State have resolved to contribute their own quota to the current renovations  going on in 40 primary schools  funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to improve learning in the affected areas.
The residents revealed to THISDAY that they could not seat and watch work going on meant to aid the learning condition of their wards and do nothing.
“Most of us have various skills and expertise to offer,” one of the residents said.
Speaking at a ceremony organised by UNICEF at Balwhona Primary School in Gombi Local Government area of the state to begin the renovation of 40 primary schools destroyed by the insurgency, the Gombi Chairman of School Base Management Committee (SBMC) Mohammed Abdulahi said: “Some of us are carpenters, brick layers, welders etc, so we have much to offer in terms of labour.”
The chairman of the SBMC, which is a locally based committee established in various localities to supervise and manage the affairs of schools, added that they had entered an agreement with UNICEF to provide labour while they provide the funding to procure materials for the job.
