Following the near completion of rehabilitation works on the Bako Mohammed Kontagora Stadium in Minna, the Niger State Sports Council has written to the League Management Company (LMC) to come and inspect the stadium for certification.
The stadium had been shut to all matches in the last two football seasons because it did not meet the standards set by the LMC.
As a result, the state own team, Niger Tornadoes Football Club has been playing all its home matches in Lokoja in Kogi State.
But thursday, the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Alhaji Mammam Musa told sportswriters in Minna that the stadium was almost ready now and that LMC should come and inspect the work done on the facility.
“We expect the LMC to come and inspect the stadium, we have written a letter to them.”
Alhaji Musa revealed that the main-bowl is ready with a brand new fibre goal posts installed to replace the previous steel.
He urged the LMC to award the three points in the Tornadoes clash with Enyimba FC in Calabar. The commissioner insisted that Enyimba fielded five ineligible players during the encounter the Minna-based team lost.
“We need the three points. We have followed the rules we have followed it to the letter, the three points belong to us.”
LMC on Wednesday ruled in favour of Enyimba.
