A 20-year-old boy, Okonkwo Sopurochukwu, has emerged the overall winner of the maiden edition of the Catholic Archdiocesan Choir, Abuja (CACA) Music Talent Hunt.

Sopuruchukwu, with an average score of 87 per cent, emerged the overall winner after a resounding second round performance that caught the attention of the judges and the young teeming Catholic faithfuls who trooped in their thousands to see their own perform live on stage. The Talent Hunt, organised recently by CACA in collaboration with Pet Fernandez Foundation, brought out the best from its 18 participants. Soporochukwu, from the Winners Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Apo Mechanic Village, beat other two top contestants after a round of two to claim the prestigious prize of N300,000 and a year music contract from the organisers.

Speaking to journalists at the sidelines of the event, Chairman, Organising Committee, CACA, Engr. Felix Olosi, disclosed that the essence of the event was to unearth the hidden music talents that abound in the Catholic Church.

He hinted that the church intends to spread the concert all over the federation, while stating that selection for the maiden edition was based on being a Catholic and being within the age bracket of 18 to 35. “We concentrated on their voice. Then, after that, the grand finale, it will be based on their own self-composed music. So, we asked them to compose two songs with two rounds, the first round, the 18 of them will compete, then, out of the 18, we selected the best six for the second round. And at the second round, we now get the three best, and these three best would now be the grand style of CACA, Abuja”, he said.
